US President Trump posted a map on the "Truth Social" platform on Tuesday (May 12th), in which neighboring country Venezuela was depicted as the pattern of the US flag and labeled as "the 51st state".
Venezuela's interim president Rodriguez said on Monday (11th) that even after the US arrested Maduro in January, Venezuela had never considered becoming the 51st state of the United States.
Earlier on Monday, Trump told Fox News that he was considering making Venezuela a new state. In the previous few months, he had been boasting about his control over Venezuela.
Since taking over Venezuela, Rodriguez has been committed to easing relations with the United States. She has implemented reforms and reopened the country's mining and oil industries to foreign companies, especially American ones.
The Venezuelan opposition is demanding a new election. When Rodriguez was asked about the prospects of voting on May 1st, she said she "didn't know" and added that an election "would happen one day".
