After US President Trump announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, the UK emphasized that it would not participate in the blockade operation.
On Sunday (April 12th), the British Sky News channel quoted a government spokesperson as saying that the UK will continue to support the restoration of the Strait of Hormuz to its normal state, and it should not become a toll passage. Currently, the UK is collaborating with France and other countries to form an alliance. More than 40 countries from several European nations, Japan and Canada have committed to assisting in reopening the Strait of Hormuz after the war.
Earlier that day, Trump threatened on social media that due to Iran's refusal to make concessions on the key issue of its nuclear program, the US Navy would immediately begin to blockade the Strait of Hormuz.
However, Trump's remarks conflicted with the subsequent announcement made by the US Central Command. The Central Command stated that the authorities would not impede the freedom of navigation of ships traveling to and from non-Iranian ports through the Strait of Hormuz.
The Central Command announced on social media on Sunday that it will start the blockade of Iranian Gulf ports at 2 p.m. Greenwich Mean Time (10 p.m. Singapore time) on Monday, April 13th. This blockade will apply uniformly to all ships entering and leaving Iranian ports and coastal areas, including all Iranian ports located in the Arabian Sea and the Gulf of Oman.
