美国四名官员披露，拜登政府很快会批准向乌克兰提供配备集束炸弹的远程导弹，这将使基辅有能力深入重击俄罗斯占领的领土。
路透社报道，乌军近几个月以155毫米口径榴弹炮发射集束炸弹，在前线取得了一些成功。有鉴于此，三名美国官员说，政府正在考虑为基辅再提供射程可达190英里（306公里）的陆军战术导弹系统（ATACMS），或装有集束炸弹、射程45英里的制导多管火箭系统（GMLRS）。
如果获通过，以上任何一种导弹系统都可以快速送到基辅。
乌克兰目前使用的155毫米口径榴弹炮，最大射程为18英里，最多可携带48枚小炸弹。
列入考虑的陆军战术导弹系统可发射约300枚或300枚以上的小炸弹。制导多管火箭系统是乌克兰武器库中已拥有的版本，这套系统能发射404枚小炸弹。
其中两名消息人士称，现在乌克兰对俄罗斯的反攻行动已有进展迹象，白宫希望在此关键时刻进一步增强乌军方的实力。
