The French parliament has passed a bill proposing to increase the defense budget by 36 billion euros by 2030.

The French National Assembly has passed a bill, planning to increase the defense budget by a total of 36 billion euros by 2030.

Xinhua News Agency reported that the French National Assembly passed this bill on Tuesday (May 19th), and the next step will be for it to be reviewed and voted on by the Senate.

According to the seven-year budget plan of France that was enacted in 2023, the total defense budget of France from 2024 to 2030 will amount to 400 billion euros.

The new bill has raised this amount to 436 billion euros. Among them, the defense budget for 2030 will reach 76.3 billion euros, an increase of 8.9 billion euros compared to the original plan. It is expected that by then, it will be equivalent to 2.5% of France's gross domestic product (GDP).

Defense Secretary Waltzman stated that the new bill is aimed at responding to the demands of the military, to support the defense industry, and to prepare for future strategic challenges.
