Monitoring agency: Two-thirds of Gaza's population may face severe hunger within the year

The global food monitoring agency said that due to a lack of funds, humanitarian organizations have cut their aid, and by the end of the year, more than two-thirds of the population in the Gaza Strip will be facing severe hunger.

According to a report by Reuters, the latest assessment of the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) found that after the ceasefire between Israel and the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) in October 2025, food supply and nutrition services were strengthened, and the levels of severe malnutrition, especially among children, have significantly decreased. However, there is a risk of these achievements being reversed.

The comprehensive classification of the food security stage was formulated by the Food Security Analysis Department of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization as a global standard for measuring food security. According to the assessment report released on Thursday (July 23rd), the food consumption of most families is still insufficient, and some families have to beg or pick up food.

The report indicates that from mid-April to the end of June, more than 1.2 million people (approximately 59% of the Gaza population) were facing severe hunger, including about 212,000 people in an emergency situation. It is estimated that by December, this number will rise to over 1.4 million, accounting for 67% of the Gaza population.

After two years of war and the displacement of almost the entire population, the majority of people in Gaza rely on aid supplies.

According to the data from December, some areas in Gaza are no longer in a state of famine, overturning the conclusion they reached in August. This agency now warns that as the scale of aid begins to shrink, these achievements are at risk.
