The United States has imposed a new round of sanctions on Cuba, targeting Cuban President Díaz-Canel and some of his immediate family members, as well as members of the Castro family who were former Cuban presidents.

AFP reported that on Thursday (June 4th), the Office of Foreign Assets Control of the US Department of the Treasury issued a notice, announcing the inclusion of five individuals and five entities from Cuba on the sanctions list.

Cuban Foreign Minister Rodriguez said that any attempt by the US to provoke conflict is doomed to fail.

The US announcement stated that the individuals included in the "Special Designated Nationals List" on that day were Díaz-Canel, his wife and stepson, and the son and grandson of Cuban revolutionary leader Raúl Castro.

The sanctioned entities are the Committee for the Defense of the Revolution of Cuba, the Association of Cuba with People of All Nations, the Ministry of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Cuba, the State-owned Tourism Service Company of Cuba, and a joint venture mining enterprise.

In January, the United States carried out a surprise raid on Venezuela, arresting Venezuelan President Maduro and his wife and bringing them to the United States for trial.

US President Trump subsequently made several threats, stating that Cuba might be the next target for the United States. He said on Thursday: "We will deal with Iran first. After that, on our way back, we will make a brief stop there."

Washington claims that the communist regime in Cuba poses a threat to the security of the American people.
