瑞典政府表示，计划从2024年11月起取消塑料袋税，此举遭到了环保组织的严厉批评。
法新社报道，瑞典政府在一份声明中说：“征税被认为会产生一些负面影响，如行政成本，同时也会导致其他替代品消费量的增加。”替代品包括纸袋，生产纸袋需要消耗更多的能源和水。
瑞典气候大臣普尔莫赫塔里星期三（9月13日）告诉瑞典电视台：“我们相信，瑞典人在日常生活中使用塑料袋时明智且合理，没有理由让塑料袋变得额外昂贵。”
这引发了人们的担忧，即在多年努力后，新政府的气候政策正在倒退。
瑞典于2020年开始对塑料袋征收三克朗（约合0.37新元）的税，但一些商店将价格提高到了七克朗。
根据瑞典环保局的数据，在征税前的2019年，瑞典人每人每年购买74个塑料袋，到2022年下降到17个。
环境保护署和海洋与水管理署警告说，降低或取消该税种可能会导致自然界中塑料垃圾的增加：“塑料袋税表明，经济激励措施是引导消费者的有效方法。”
瑞典政府表示，今后将继续监测塑料袋的使用情况。
