The Financial Times of the UK reported on Friday (May 8th) that the United States and South Africa have begun preliminary consultations on a potential resource cooperation agreement.
The areas of consultation between the United States and South Africa include mining, energy and infrastructure.
The report quoted several participants as saying that about 25 US and South African officials held a meeting in Johannesburg on the 6th to discuss matters related to mineral cooperation.
This is the highest-level meeting held by these two countries that have been in a state of tension this year.
Reuters was unable to immediately verify the report in the Financial Times.
