The acting US Attorney General Blanch announced the cancellation of the $1.8 billion "Anti-Weaponization Fund" program, but the agreement that prohibits future audits of President Trump's past tax records will remain in effect.

Reuters reported that Blanch said on Tuesday (June 2) at a hearing of the House Appropriations subcommittee that the fund plan would not be continued.

Trump and Trump Enterprises previously filed a lawsuit against the US Internal Revenue Service and demanded a compensation of 10 billion US dollars based on the tax declaration information from 2019 to 2020 that was leaked by a former contractor. In May this year, the two sides reached a settlement, and Trump agreed to withdraw the lawsuit. The US Department of Justice then announced on May 18th that it would establish a "Counter-Weaponization Fund" worth 1.8 billion US dollars to compensate those who claimed to have been "weaponized" by the government. The settlement agreement also stipulated that the US Internal Revenue Service could not conduct audits on the tax declarations previously submitted by Trump, his relatives, and related enterprises.

This fund plan was unusually strongly opposed by Republican lawmakers.

On the 2nd, Blanch told the lawmakers, "We will not proceed with this fund. That's it." However, Blanch also informed the lawmakers that the agreement he had reached with Trump, which prohibited audits of the past tax records of Trump himself or his family, remained valid.

Blanche was Trump's former personal lawyer. After Trump dismissed Bondi as the Attorney General in early April, Blanche, who was serving as the Deputy Attorney General at that time, took over as the Acting Attorney General.

A person familiar with the White House's thinking said that whether Blanch could allay the concerns of Republican lawmakers regarding the "Anti-Weaponization Fund" would affect his political prospects within the White House.
