European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde warned on Monday that slow progress in the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) could endanger Europe's future, and she called for the prompt removal of obstacles hindering the application of AI.
Lagarde said at an event in Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia, on Monday (November 24) : "The United States and China have taken the lead. Europe has missed the opportunity to seize the initiative in the field of AI."
Lagarde's remarks have intensified concerns that Europe lags behind the United States and China in the field of AI, which is generally believed to be due to excessive regulation and insufficient investment in Europe.
She pointed out that Europe must remove all obstacles that prevent it from embracing this transformation; otherwise, it might miss the wave of AI popularization and thus endanger Europe's future.
She said that if Europe could resolutely deploy AI technology in key areas, it could turn its late start into a competitive advantage.
