The United States has imposed new sanctions on Iran's military oil trade.
Reuters reported that the US Treasury Department said on Thursday (May 28th) that the United States has imposed sanctions on eight ships involved in transporting Iranian crude oil and petroleum products to global markets. These include the oil tanker "Flora" which is flagged by the Marshall Islands, the crude oil tanker "Hauncayo" which is flagged by the Equatorial Guinea, and the oil tanker "Ill Gap" which is flagged by Panama.
U.S. Treasury Secretary Benet issued a statement saying: "We will not allow the Iranian government to increase its oil revenue for the purpose of rebuilding the Iranian armed forces and military power."
The United States has also imposed sanctions on more than 15 entities, including Hong Kong's Wah Sing Energy Limited and Mehdiyev Trading Co, as well as the Dubai-based shipping and maritime management company Symphony Shipping and Maritime Management Inc.
The US Treasury Department stated that some sanctioned Iranian entities also utilized the oil sales infrastructure of the Iranian armed forces to obtain petroleum products from outside Iran. For instance, Sepehr Energy Jahan, a representative of Khazanah Energy, purchased refined oil products for the Iranian National Oil Company.
