British Deputy Prime Minister Rimmer said that Prime Minister Stammer is committed to fulfilling his duties and will not resign.
Ramie told Sky News on Monday (May 18th) that Stammer would not set a timetable for his resignation. "I want to make it clear that Stammer is still the most resilient person I have ever known. I talked to him twice yesterday. He is strong-willed and experienced, and will not set a timetable for his resignation."
Rami also emphasized: "What needs to be done now is to continue to advance government affairs. I am very clear about this."
After the ruling Labour Party suffered a crushing defeat in the local elections, Stammer's leadership is facing severe challenges. Currently, 92 Labour Party MPs have urged him to clarify when he will step down.
Last week, British Health Secretary Strittin resigned and intends to run for the position of the Labour Party leader, replacing Stammer. The Mayor of Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham, is also seeking a parliamentary seat in order to challenge Stammer.
Facing increasingly heavy pressure, Stammer has consistently refused to resign and insists that he will handle any leadership challenges.
Rami told Sky News: "There is currently no competition. He (Stammer) is determined to benefit the British people and will accelerate his efforts in the coming months. There is still a lot of work to be done."
