The Aviation Accident Investigation Bureau of India urges international media to avoid publishing "unverified reports".

In response to recent media reports on the investigation of the Air India passenger plane crash in June this year, the Air India Accident Investigation Bureau said that it is still too early to draw any definite conclusion on the cause of the crash. Some international media should avoid spreading "immature statements" that may undermine the fairness of the investigation.

Xinhua News Agency reported that the Indian Aviation Accident Investigation Bureau issued a statement on Thursday (July 17) saying that the investigation into the cause of the passenger plane crash is being conducted "in the strictest and most professional manner". However, some international media have repeatedly carried out "selective and unverified reports". This kind of behavior is irresponsible, especially when the investigation is still ongoing.

The statement also emphasized that at present, public anxiety or unease about the safety of India's aviation industry should not be created.

The statement did not name which media outlets made "selective and unverified reports", but some Indian media outlets mentioned the report by The Wall Street Journal on Wednesday (16th) when reporting the statement on the same day. The Wall Street Journal reported that the cockpit voice recording of the crashed passenger plane indicated that the captain was suspected of turning off the fuel switches of two engines.

On June 12th, an Air India Boeing 787-8 passenger plane flying from India to the UK crashed shortly after taking off from Ahmedabad Airport in Gujarat, India. According to Indian media reports, the plane crash has claimed 274 lives, including 33 people on the ground. The preliminary investigation report released by the Air Accident Investigation Bureau of India last Sunday (the 12th) showed that the two engines of the involved passenger plane lost fuel supply shortly after takeoff.
