US President Trump announced on social media just before the deadline expired that he had agreed to "suspend air strikes and attacks against Iran for two weeks".

On Tuesday evening (April 7th), at 6:32 PM, Trump posted on Truth Social: "Based on my discussions with Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz and Army Chief of Staff Munir, they requested that I postpone the devastating strike against Iran tonight. And on the condition that the Islamic Republic of Iran agrees to fully, immediately and safely open the Strait of Hormuz, I agreed to suspend the bombing and attacks against Iran for two weeks. This will be a two-way ceasefire!"

Trump continued: "The reason is that we have achieved and exceeded all military objectives, and have made significant progress in reaching a long-term peace agreement with Iran as well as a peace agreement for the Middle East. We have received the 10-point proposal from Iran and consider it a feasible negotiation basis. The United States and Iran have almost reached consensus on various disputed points that existed in the past, but the two-week ceasefire will enable this agreement to be finalized and come into effect."

"As the President of the United States, on behalf of the United States of America and also on behalf of the countries in the Middle East, I am extremely honored that this long-standing issue is about to be resolved. Thank you all for your attention to this matter! President Donald Trump."

Several US media outlets reported on the 7th evening that an American official said that according to the two-week ceasefire agreement, the US military's air strikes against Iran have been suspended.

On Tuesday morning, Trump warned Iran that it must reach an agreement by 8 p.m. Eastern Time on the 7th (8 a.m. Singapore time) or open the shipping lane of the Strait of Hormuz. Otherwise, "an entire civilization will perish tonight and will never recover." Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz made a statement on social media earlier, saying that he requested Trump to extend this "deadline" by 14 days, and also requested Iran to open the Strait of Hormuz for two weeks as a gesture of goodwill.
