Russian President Putin warned that if the enemy forces the capital of Moscow into a desperate situation, they will surely regret it.
Reuters reported that Putin delivered a speech during a meeting with the Russian Federal Security Service on Tuesday (February 24th). He said: "The enemy failed to launch a strategic attack on Russia on the battlefield. Therefore, the enemy can only rely on individual and group terrorist activities, including shelling cities, destroying infrastructure, and assassinating government and military officials."
In his television speech, Putin also hinted that the Russian energy pipeline beneath the Black Sea might be a target for attack. Therefore, he ordered "to enhance counter-terrorism protection for energy and transportation infrastructure, as well as public places, to cover the key facilities to the greatest extent, and to equip additional security measures when necessary."
During the war, Ukraine launched multiple attacks on Russia's oil depots, refineries and ports. Putin claimed that these attacks were carried out with the assistance of Western intelligence agencies. Moscow also accused Ukraine of planning a series of assassinations targeting senior Russian officers.
The Russian Foreign Intelligence Service claimed earlier on Tuesday that Britain and France were planning to supply nuclear weapons to Ukraine. The French embassy in Moscow told the Ukrainian news agency (RBC) that this claim was "purely a lie". The British side has not responded to this yet.
The Russian Foreign Ministry issued a statement, warning of the risk of a direct conflict between nuclear powers and the severe consequences that could result.
Ushakov, the foreign policy advisor to the Russian president, said that Russia will inform the United States about Ukraine's attempts to acquire nuclear weapons.
