King Charles III of the United Kingdom delivered his annual Christmas speech on Thursday (December 25th), calling on people to show "compassion and reconciliation" at a time when the world is facing "division".
A pre-recorded speech by King Charles, 77, at Westminster Abbey was broadcast on British television at 3 p.m. London time on Thursday.
King Charles said that people of different faiths share a "common yearning for peace", which he found "very encouraging".
He said that on the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II, the courage of the soldiers and women and the unity of the community back then "conveyed an eternal message to all of us".
He said: "When we see differences at home and abroad, these are values that we must not ignore...... With the great diversity of our community, we can find the strength to ensure that justice prevails over evil. In my view, we need to cherish the values of compassion and reconciliation just as our God did.
This is the second consecutive time that King Charles has delivered a Christmas message outside the royal residence.
Last year, he delivered a speech in a hospital chapel, expressing his gratitude to the medical staff for their support to the royal family during the year when he was diagnosed with cancer.
