Russian President Putin spoke by phone with US President Trump on Monday (March 9th), focusing on international issues such as the situation in Iran and Ukraine. Putin proposed some suggestions for resolving the ongoing conflict over Iran through political and diplomatic means as soon as possible.

Xinhua News Agency reported that Russian Presidential Assistant Ushakov said on the evening of the 9th that Putin and Trump had a phone conversation lasting approximately one hour. Ushakov stated that regarding the "conflict in Iran", Putin "expressed several ideas", including considering promoting communication involving leaders from several Gulf countries, Iranian President Pehlevizadeh, and other national leaders.

Trump briefed Putin on his "assessment of the current situation in light of the ongoing US-Israeli actions". "The two sides had a specific and beneficial exchange on this topic."

Ushakov said that Trump once again expressed his hope that the conflict between Ukraine and Russia could enter a ceasefire phase as soon as possible, in order to reach a long-term solution to the Ukraine issue.

Furthermore, the leaders of Russia and the United States also discussed the issue of Venezuela from the perspective of the global crude oil market.

This was the first phone conversation between the presidents of Russia and the United States since the two countries jointly launched a large-scale military operation against Iran on February 28. Putin, on the 6th, when he spoke to Pesetschijan, said that Russia's principle position on this conflict is that military actions must be immediately stopped, and the use of force to solve the problems in Iran and the Middle East region should be abandoned. The country should quickly return to the track of political and diplomatic solutions.
