The Defense and Security Council of Myanmar has declared a state of emergency in some towns of three provinces and six states.

According to a report by Reuters citing Myanmar's state television on Thursday (July 31), Myanmar's leaders announced that for security reasons, the country's general election voting will be held in December and January. Myanmar's state television MRTV reported in its evening news briefing that the commander-in-chief of the Myanmar Defense Forces, Min Aung hlaing, made the above remarks at a meeting of defense and security department heads.

Myanmar has announced the formation of a new federal government

Xinhua News Agency, citing a report from Myanmar's radio and television station, said that the Myanmar Defense and Security Council has issued multiple orders, announcing the revocation of the order to transfer state power to the commander-in-chief of the defense forces and the establishment of a new federal government as well as a National Security and peace council.

According to the order, Neuau was appointed as the new prime minister of the federal government, and Min Aung Hlaing, the commander-in-chief of the Defense forces, was appointed as the chairman of the National Security and Peace Council.

The head of the news and information group of the State Administration Council of Myanmar, Zom Min Thun, told the media on the same day that the Defense and Security Council held a meeting in Naypyidaw on the same day and had decided to end the national state of emergency for the general election.

In February 2021, Myanmar's then acting President Mingrui declared a one-year state of emergency across the country and transferred state power to the commander-in-chief of the Defense forces. The General Headquarters of the National Defense Forces subsequently established a National Management Committee, with Min Aung Hlaing serving as the chairperson of the committee. Myanmar has since extended the state of emergency across the country several times.

Min Aung Hlaing announced on June 25 this year that Myanmar will hold a general election from December this year to January next year.
