(Sydney AFP) 22 countries including the United States, several European nations and Australia issued a joint statement, warning Iran to immediately cease its malicious attacks against dissidents, journalists and the Jewish community within their territory.
On Thursday (June 11th), these countries issued a joint statement, stating that the Iranian intelligence agency had hired international and local criminal gangs to plot attacks in Europe, North America and Australia. Their actions were heinous. "These attempts to carry out killings, kidnappings, harassment, intimidation or other forms of attacks against the people on our territory, have violated national sovereignty and international norms. These actions must be immediately stopped."
The statement alleges that the intelligence department of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps of Iran and its overseas operations unit, the Quds Force, have carried out "deadly plots and malicious actions" against Iranian dissidents, journalists, the Jewish and Israeli communities.
These countries also allege that Iran is the mastermind behind the recent attacks carried out by the HAYI organization (which means "Islamic Right-wing Movement") in multiple countries.
HAYI has admitted carrying out attacks on Jewish communities in the UK, Belgium and the Netherlands, including the stabbing of two Jewish men in north London over several months, as well as a series of arson attacks on Jewish churches and Jewish community sites.
Australia expelled Iranian ambassador last year and labeled the Revolutionary Guard as a supporter of terrorism.
Australia once accused Tehran of being behind at least two anti-Semitic attacks, including the arson attack on a Jewish synagogue in Melbourne and the burning of a kosher coffee shop in Sydney. For this reason, Australia expelled the Iranian ambassador in August last year, recalled its ambassador to Iran, and suspended the operation of the embassy in Tehran.
In November last year, Australia listed the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps as a state agency that supports terrorism. The Iranian Foreign Ministry responded at that time, saying that Australia's decision was "an insulting and baseless move" and violated international rules.
This coalition issued a statement condemning Iran, involving 22 countries including the United States, Albania, Australia, Belgium, the United Kingdom, Bulgaria, Canada, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, France, Finland, Germany, Ireland, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, New Zealand, North Macedonia, Norway, Portugal and Sweden.
