Britain will abandon the digital identity card project and prioritize issues related to people's livelihood.

A close ally of the next British prime minister, Barnham, has revealed that after taking office, Barnham will abandon the national digital identity card program and redirect resources towards issues such as living costs and other matters related to people's livelihoods.

Reuters reported that Burnham will succeed Stammer as prime minister on Monday (July 20th). His office said that one of his top priorities upon taking office will be to abandon the plan to require all employees to hold digital identity cards. This plan, aimed at combating illegal immigration, has been highly controversial.

After being criticized, Stammer lifted the mandatory requirement for employees to hold digital identity cards in January this year.

A spokesperson for Burnham said: "The time and resources originally allocated for the national identity card program will now be used in areas where they are most needed, such as helping people cope with the rising cost of living."

In November last year, the Office for Budget Responsibility of the UK estimated that the cost of the digital identity card program would be approximately 1.8 billion pounds over the next two fiscal years.

Conservative MP Lopez said: "The Labour Party wasted millions of pounds on this project. Now Barnham is trying to pretend that he is here to save the day."

The deputy leader of the Labour Party, a friend of Burnham, Powell said that although the savings from cancelling this plan might not be significant, it was "a small example of re-adjusting priorities".

In an interview with the BBC, she said: "This is an opportunity for a fresh start and a complete overhaul. It gives us the chance to re-examine those matters that not only consume resources but also distract the government's attention and affect its priorities."

In the interview, Powell refused to disclose any other policies of the new government or details of the Bernham cabinet team. However, she said that they would adhere to the previous government's commitment regarding new oil and gas drilling in the North Sea.
