The EU has announced sanctions against the spokesperson of the naval department of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps of Iran and a regional command center in response to Iran's closure of the Strait of Hormuz.
AFP reported that on Monday (June 8th), the 27 member states of the EU issued a statement saying that they would add the spokesperson of the Revolutionary Guards Navy, Mohammad Akbarzadeh, as well as the "Hormozgan Provincial Command" of the Revolutionary Guards, to the sanctions list.
Meanwhile, Hamid Hosseini, the representative of the Iranian Oil Exporters' Association, will also be subject to asset freezes and entry bans.
In terms of security, European countries are seeking to increase their presence in the Strait of Hormuz. Led by France and the United Kingdom, multiple countries are formulating plans to dispatch naval forces to the Strait after the war.
The EU's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, said that the current EU naval mission force deployed in the Red Sea may potentially participate in related operations in the future.
