US President Trump announced that US officials will arrive in Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan, on Monday (April 20th) to conduct further negotiations on the agreement to end the US-Iran conflict. Trump also accused Iran of reportedly firing at ships in the Strait of Hormuz, stating that this action "completely violates" the ceasefire agreement between the two sides.
Trump disclosed this diplomatic development on social media on Sunday (the 19th). Although he confirmed that the US delegation was about to set off, the specific list of officials and the parties they planned to hold talks with remain unclear. While announcing the negotiation arrangements, Trump continued to issue a tough warning to Iran.
He accused Iran of reportedly firing at international ships traveling in the Strait of Hormuz, naming ships affected including a French vessel and a British cargo ship. Trump wrote in the post: "Iran fired shots in the Strait of Hormuz yesterday - this completely violates our ceasefire agreement! Many of the bullets were fired at a French ship and a British cargo ship. This is not very friendly, is it?" He said that the US proposal was a "very fair and reasonable" agreement.
"If they don't accept the agreement, the US will destroy every power plant and every bridge in Iran. They won't be the nice guys anymore! They will soon give in, and they will do so very easily." Trump even declared that if Iran refuses to accept the agreement, taking necessary actions would be his "honor". He described this as an action that all previous US presidents should have taken towards Iran for the past 47 years.
Trump: If an agreement is reached, he may head to Islamabad
Furthermore, Trump said in an interview with the US "New York Post" on Sunday that if the US and Iran can reach an agreement in Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan, he "is likely" to go to Islamabad.
When a reporter asked Trump whether he would go to Islamabad, Trump initially said, "I think we'll talk about it later. We need to see how things go tomorrow." When the reporter pressed him further, Trump stated that he wouldn't make a decision before the negotiations made progress, but "it's very likely that he will go later."
