Britain: The United States should provide legal grounds for its efforts to confront Iran

British Defense Secretary Hilli refused on Sunday (March 1st) to explicitly support the US and Israel's air strikes against Iran, stating that "the US has the responsibility to clarify the legal basis for its actions."

Reuters reported that Iranian state media has confirmed that Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed in the air strike on Saturday (February 28th).

Hilli told the BBC's Kunsberg that the UK did not participate in this air strike, but its goal was in line with that of the US and other allies in the region, which was that Iran should never possess nuclear weapons.

When asked whether he thought the air strike was in line with international law, Hilli said: "The United States has the responsibility to clarify the legal basis for its actions."

Hilli said that Iran's retaliatory actions are becoming increasingly indiscriminate, not only targeting military bases but also civilian airports, hotels and other targets.

He told Sky News: "We have strengthened the UK's defense in the region and we are actively involved in regional defense operations."

He said that British aircraft were taking off from bases in Qatar and Cyprus to intercept drone attacks targeting the bases and their allies.
