The Thai military said on social media platforms on Tuesday (July 29) that a ceasefire has been reached in all areas along the border between Thailand and Cambodia.
According to Thailand's Public Television, the troops of both sides engaged in fierce fighting in the last 10 minutes before the ceasefire. The Thai military confirmed that military operations have now concluded in all regions. Meanwhile, the Thai side is still closely monitoring the situation to ensure the stability of the border order.
Thai Acting Prime Minister Phong Tan and Cambodian Prime Minister Hon Manet held talks at the Prime Minister's Official Residence in Putrajaya, Malaysia on Monday (28th) afternoon. Malaysia is the rotating chair of the ASEAN presidency this year, and the talks were chaired by Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar. China and the United States also sent their ambassadors to Malaysia to attend the meeting. The US side was a co-organizer of the talks, while China participated as an observer.
According to the joint statement issued by Malaysia, Cambodia and Thailand, in addition to agreeing to a ceasefire starting from 0:00 on July 29, the two sides will also hold an informal meeting of border military district commanders at 7:00 a.m. on the 29th. Subsequently, with the consent of both sides, Malaysia will host talks with defense representatives.
Thailand and Cambodia will also hold a meeting of the "General Committee on Border Affairs" hosted by the Cambodian side on August 4th. Malaysia will coordinate and dispatch an observation mission, and consult with other member states of the Islamic Republic of Armenia and participate in the supervision work to demonstrate the Islamic Republic of Armenia's support for peace efforts.
