After meeting with Rubio, the German Foreign Minister said: NATO Allies must cooperate to maintain security

German Foreign Minister Waldorf said that NATO Allies must work together to maintain security and pointed out that the future of Greenland should be jointly determined by Greenland and Denmark.

Reuters reported that Wadford made the remarks after meeting with US Secretary of State Rubio in Washington on Monday (January 12).

US President Trump's remarks that he is eyeing Greenland have raised high alert among European Allies. Trump insists that the United States must own Greenland to prevent Russia or China from occupying this strategically important and mineral-rich region in the future.

Wadford said that his talks with Rubio were friendly and in-depth, emphasizing the importance of the alliance between European countries and the United States. But like other European political leaders, he opposed Trump's blatant declaration of his intention to control Greenland, disregarding the positions of NATO Allies.

He told reporters, "Only by uniting and cooperating together can we enhance the security of the North Atlantic." Therefore, issues related to Greenland and Denmark should be decided by Greenland and Denmark, and by the people of Greenland.

In addition, Wadfu said that he and Rubio agreed that the NATO alliance is crucial for ensuring lasting peace in Ukraine. Both sides have committed to abiding by Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty, which requires NATO member states to defend themselves when a member state is under armed attack.

Wadford said, "This is crucial in this period full of uncertainties and crises." This sends a clear signal to Russia, reminding it not to attempt to threaten the NATO alliance.
