The US small-scale importers have filed a lawsuit with the court to initiate the tariff refund procedure

A group of small businesses that successfully challenged President Trump's global tariff policy at the US Supreme Court have now filed an application with a lower-level court in the US to restart the litigation process, in order to initiate the procedure for applying for tariff refunds from the government.

Bloomberg reported that lawyers representing these small businesses demanded on Tuesday (February 24th) that the US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit formally confirm the ruling made last year, which determined that Trump's so-called "reciprocal" tariff policy was illegal.

Once the ruling is confirmed, this case will return to the US International Trade Court, where the court will determine the subsequent steps, including whether the funds should be refunded to the importer.

On the 20th, the nine justices of the US Supreme Court voted 6-3 to uphold the lower court's ruling, determining that Trump's imposition of "equivalent" tariffs in violation of the 1977 International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) exceeded the president's authority and was unconstitutional.
