Russian Security Council Secretary and former Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu told Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi that Moscow will continue to support Beijing on the Taiwan issue.
According to TASS news agency on Sunday (February 1), Shoigu said: “We see that those who harbor ill will towards China continue to destabilize the situation in the Taiwan Strait. For our part, I want to reiterate our unwavering and consistent support for Beijing on the Taiwan issue.”
He added: “We maintain that the Government of the People's Republic of China is the sole legitimate government representing all of China.”
Shoigu arrived in China earlier on Sunday. The Russian Security Council said that Shoigu would meet with Wang Yi to discuss security issues.
This visit comes as Russian, Ukrainian, and US officials are holding talks aimed at ending the nearly four-year-long war between Russia and Ukraine.
Shoigu also met with Wang Yi in Moscow last December.
