The White House says President Donald Trump is expected to hold a meeting on Wednesday (April 2) to discuss a potential buyer for short video platform TikTok.
Reuters reported that a senior White House official said the meeting will be held in the Oval Office and will include senior Cabinet members, Vice President Vance and White House National Security Adviser Michael Walz.
The US Senate passed a bill in April 2024, which limited TikTok's Chinese parent company ByteDance to sell TikTok's US business to non-Chinese companies before January 19, 2025, on the grounds of national security, or it will be completely banned in the United States. After taking office this year, Trump signed an executive order that pushed back the deadline to divest TikTok to April 5.
TikTok has 170 million users in the United States.
