Indian Prime Minister Modi met with Canadian Foreign Minister Anand. This was the highest-level meeting between the two countries since they agreed to restore ambassadorial diplomatic relations after a fierce dispute.

AFP reported that Anand met with Modi and Indian Foreign Minister Sujatha Singh successively in New Delhi on Monday (October 13). In a brief speech broadcast by the Indian Ministry of Foreign Affairs after the meeting, Sujatha Singh stated: "Over the past few months, bilateral relations between the Incas have steadily advanced."

Sujatha Singh said that India regards Canada as a "complementary economy" and "another open society", and described this as the foundation for the two sides to build a close, sustainable and long-term cooperation framework.

Canada accused New Delhi of being involved in the assassination of a Sikh leader of Canadian origin in 2023, but India denied it. Subsequently, relations between the two countries deteriorated, and diplomatic rifts seriously disrupted consular and trade services.

Since Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney took office in March this year, relations between the Inca and Canada have gradually improved. During the G7 summit held in Canada in June, Carney met with Modi and both sides agreed to appoint a new high commissioner.

US President Trump's trade policies have disrupted the global trade landscape, and as a result, the Inca has shown a stronger willingness to cooperate. Anand also plans to meet with Indian Trade Minister Goyal, who will also meet business leaders in Mumbai, the financial center of India.
