In Nepal, tens of thousands of prisoners escaped from prison during demonstrations, but the authorities only recaptured nearly 200 of them

During violent demonstrations in Nepal, a large-scale prison break occurred. Tens of thousands of prisoners took advantage of the chaos to escape, but the authorities only captured about 192 prisoners.

AFP reported that local police said on Thursday (September 11) that violent demonstrations broke out in Nepal this week, forcing Prime Minister Oli to step down. During this period, about 13,500 prisoners escaped from prison in chaos across the country, and security forces are striving to regain control.

Clashes also broke out in a prison in Lamechapur, east of the capital Kathmandu. The Nepalese military opened fire, leaving 12 prisoners injured and two dead.

Indian border forces said that authorities have arrested at least 60 Nepalese who attempted to cross the border and infiltrate neighboring states of Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal. The Indian authorities have also handed them over to the Nepalese authorities.

The Nepalese military also said that the authorities have recovered nearly 100 weapons that were stolen. Protesters were once witnessed seizing automatic rifles from law enforcement officers.

Since Monday (the 8th), large-scale demonstrations have broken out in several cities in Nepal, protesting against the government's ban on multiple social media platforms on the grounds of "incomplete registration" and its failure to address issues such as corruption. During this period, the police threw tear gas at the demonstrators, used water cannons and even opened fire, resulting in at least 19 deaths.

This is also the most serious violent incident in Nepal in the past 20 years. Parliament, government and presidential offices, commercial buildings and a Hilton Hotel were also set on fire.
