A South Korean court has issued an arrest warrant for Han Hak-ja, the president of the United Church, who is suspected of colluding with the administration of former President Yoon Suk-yeol.
The Yonhap News Agency reported that the Seoul Central District Court issued an arrest warrant for Han Hak-ja on Tuesday (September 23). She is suspected of bribing Kim Geon-hee, the wife of Yoon Suk-yeol, and others. The court believes that she is at risk of destroying evidence and has approved her arrest.
Han Hezi was appointed president of the Unification Church in September 2012. This was the first time during her tenure that she was summoned and arrested as a criminal suspect. She appeared in a wheelchair at the Seoul Central District Court on Monday (the 22nd) to undergo a review of the necessity of arrest.
It is reported that Han Hak-ja is suspected of conspiring with Yoon, a former senior figure of the Unification Church, to provide 100 million won (about 92,000 Singapore dollars) to Kwon Seong-dong, a lawmaker of the People Power Party, in January 2022, requesting that the Yoon Suk-yeol administration take care of the affairs related to the Unification Church after its establishment.
From April to July 2022, Han Hezi's side also, through Jeon Sung-bae (transliteration), who is known as "Master Ganjin", handed over a high-priced necklace and a designer bag to Kim Geon-hee, asking for her help.
In addition, Han Hak-zi is also suspected of misappropriating public funds from the religious group to purchase the necklace and designer bag given to Kim Geon-hee, instructing Yoon to destroy the relevant evidence of her gambling abroad, handing over a shopping bag containing money to Kwon Seong-dong, and arranging for a large number of members of the United Christian Church to join the party before the 2023 National Congress of the People Power, in support of Kwon Seong-dong's election as the party leader.
