The leaders of the UK, France, Germany and Ukraine: Ukraine needs strong security guarantees

British Prime Minister Stammer held talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Olaf Mez at 10 Downing Street on Monday (December 8th), emphasizing that Ukraine needs strong security guarantees.

Xinhua News Agency reported that a spokesperson for 10 Downing Street said that the attending leaders instructed their national security assistants to continue discussions in the coming days, while emphasizing the need for a just and lasting peace in Ukraine, which includes strong security guarantees for the country.

The spokesperson said that the leaders attending the meeting agreed that Europe must stand with Ukraine to enhance the defense capabilities of Ukraine's energy facilities. The leaders attending the meeting also discussed the "positive progress" made in using Russia's frozen assets to support Ukraine's reconstruction.

After the meeting, Stammer and Zelensky made phone calls to other European Allies to brief them on the situation of the talks.

Zelensky posted on social media that night that he had arrived in Brussels, the capital of Belgium, and would meet with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, European Council President Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. On Tuesday (the 9th), he will travel to Rome, the capital of Italy, to meet with Italian Prime Minister Giorgio Meloni.

The delegations of the United States and Ukraine concluded their three-day talks in Florida last Saturday (the 6th), mainly discussing territorial and security issues. US President Trump said last Sunday (7th) that Zelensky has not yet read the "peace plan" proposed by the US side regarding Russia and Ukraine, and expressed "disappointment" over this. The head of the Ukrainian negotiation delegation, Umerov, said on Monday that he would report to Zelensky on the situation of the talks with the US side and all the documents on that day.
