The first batch of inspectors from the International Atomic Energy Agency have returned to Iran and are preparing to resume their inspection work.
The Islamic Republic News Agency of Iran reported on Tuesday (August 26) that the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, made this statement in an interview with US media on the same day.
Iranian Foreign Minister Araghazi told the Middle East on the same day that Iran maintains communication with the UK, France, Germany and the International Atomic Energy Agency to seek a new framework for cooperation. Iran is preparing for indirect talks with the United States and will not engage in direct negotiations.
According to Iran's Tasnim News Agency, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Bagai said that Iran held talks with the UK, France and Germany in Geneva, Switzerland on the Iranian nuclear issue and other matters on the same day. During the talks, the Iranian side expounded its position on lifting sanctions and safeguarding nuclear rights, and also emphasized the relevant responsibilities of the European side. Iran will continue to engage with the European side in the coming days.
Iran's nuclear facilities, which are under the safeguards and supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency, were attacked by the US military on June 22. The Iranian parliament approved a bill on the 25th of the same month to suspend Iran's cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency.
This bill prohibits observers from the International Atomic Energy Agency from entering Iran for verification unless it can ensure the safety of Iran's nuclear facilities and Iran's right to the peaceful use of nuclear energy, and approval from Iran's Supreme National Security Council is required.
