The UK Ministry of Defence said on Tuesday (December 9) that a member of the British Armed Forces suffered a "tragic accident" in Ukraine and died of his injuries on the same day.
The BBC reported that this is the first time since the escalation of the Russia-Ukraine conflict in February 2022 that the UK has announced the death of British soldiers in Ukraine.
The UK Ministry of Defence said in a statement that the soldier died of his injuries "while away from the front line and observing Ukrainian forces testing a new type of defense capability". His family has been informed.
According to The Times, the UK currently has special forces secretly carrying out tasks in Ukraine, including assisting in training the Ukrainian military to use specific equipment. In addition, a small number of medical staff have been deployed in Ukraine, and there are also personnel providing security for the British diplomatic mission in Ukraine.
