US President Trump reaffirmed that the country is about to crack down on land drug smuggling in Venezuela.
Reuters reported that Trump said at the White House on Thursday (December 11) that the United States will soon crack down on and intercept drug shipments from Venezuela to the United States by land.
Trump has repeatedly threatened in recent weeks to take action against drug smuggling by land.
The US Treasury Department announced on the same day that it would impose sanctions on three nephews of Cilia Flores, the wife of Venezuelan President Maduro, as well as six crude oil tankers and shipping companies related to them.
On the same day, Reuters quoted six people familiar with the matter as saying that the United States was preparing to intercept more oil tankers carrying Venezuelan oil.
Trump disclosed to the media on Wednesday (the 10th) that the US military had seized a sanctioned large oil tanker off the coast of Venezuela. This is the first time since Trump ordered the build-up of military forces in the Caribbean Sea that actions have been taken against oil tankers that violated sanctions.
