A senior US official who preferred to remain anonymous admitted that the huge ground-penetrating bombs dropped by US B-2 bombers at the Fordo nuclear facility in Iran did not completely destroy the heavily guarded nuclear facility but only caused severe damage.

The New York Times reported on Sunday (June 22) that two informed Israeli officials disclosed that the Israeli military's initial analysis believed that the Fordo nuclear facility was severely damaged in the US military raid, but has not been completely destroyed yet. They also said that before the US military attack, Iran seemed to have removed equipment including enriched uranium from the Fordo nuclear facility.

A senior US official admitted that the US air strikes did not destroy the Fordo nuclear facility, but had caused severe damage. The official pointed out that even 12 giant ground-penetrating bombs would not be able to destroy this nuclear facility.

The damage assessment of three key nuclear facilities in Iran by Israel and the United States is still ongoing and no final conclusion has been reached yet. As it involves intelligence matters, the interviewed officials all requested anonymity.

The International Atomic Energy Agency of the United Nations confirmed on Sunday that the entrance to the tunnel used to store some stockpiles of enriched uranium at Iran's Isfahan nuclear facility was damaged in a US military attack. Some officials previously pointed out that most of Iran's highly enriched uranium was stored underground at the Isfahan nuclear facility.

In addition, Grossi said that the Fordo uranium enrichment facility is built in a deep mountain in central Iran. Given the underground location and the penetrating power of the bombs used by the United States, it is temporarily impossible to assess the extent of damage to the Fordo nuclear facility.

According to a statement from the International Atomic Energy Agency, three nuclear facilities in Iran, namely Fordo, Natanz and Isfahan, were hit after the United States launched an air strike on Saturday night (the 21st). The Isfahan nuclear facilities, which have been attacked by Israel many times before, have suffered more damage.
