The Meteorological Department of Thailand announced that Thailand will officially enter winter on Thursday (October 23rd), about a week later than usual.
The Nation newspaper of Thailand reported that cold weather will first appear in the northern and northeastern regions of Thailand and gradually spread to the central and eastern regions. Rainfall will continue in the southern region, with some areas experiencing heavy to extremely heavy rain.
The arrival of winter in Thailand means that temperatures in high-altitude areas will continue to drop, the prevailing wind direction will be northeast or east, and rainfall will also significantly decrease.
Suchada, the secretary and spokesperson of the Minister of Digital Economy and Society of Thailand, said that winter does not mean that all regions will immediately turn cold.
The coldest period is expected to be between mid-December and early February next year, with an average minimum temperature of around 21 to 22 degrees Celsius.
In the highlands and mountainous areas of the north and northeast, including Nakhon Pathom, Chiang Rai, Phayao, Nakhon Pathom, Lai, Nakhon Pathom and Sakon Nakhon Pathom, temperatures may sometimes drop to 7 to 8 degrees Celsius and frost may occur.
The minimum temperature in Bangkok and its surrounding areas is expected to be around 18 to 20 degrees Celsius.
Meanwhile, in the southern region, especially along the coast of the Gulf of Thailand, rainfall will continue to be frequent. Low-pressure systems and tropical cyclones may bring heavy rainfall and could trigger flash floods, thunderstorms and strong winds.
