According to AFP, the spokesperson of the Parliamentary Secretariat, Giri, told AFP: "Hundreds of people broke into the Parliament building and set fire to the main building."
Videos taken by AFP show that demonstrators also set fire to the residence of former Prime Minister Oli. Oli submitted his resignation to President Bowdell on Tuesday (September 9th) and it was accepted.
Large-scale demonstrations broke out in Nepal on Monday (the 8th), with people protesting against the government's ban on social media and corruption. The demonstration continued into Tuesday as people protested against the deaths of 19 people in Monday's demonstration.
The Nepalese military posted on social media X, asking people to "exercise restraint" as Oli's resignation has been accepted by the president.
Nepal's neighboring country, India, said it hopes all parties in Nepal will exercise restraint and resolve the issue through negotiations.
The embassies of Australia, Finland, France, Japan, South Korea, the United Kingdom, Norway, Germany and the United States in Nepal issued a joint statement, urging all parties to exercise maximum restraint, avoid further escalation of the situation and ensure the protection of fundamental rights.
