The Trump administration of the United States has recalled nearly 30 ambassadors and other senior career diplomats to ensure that U.S. consulates abroad embody the various priority agendas of "America First".
Reuters reported that the US State Department refused to provide a list of recalled diplomats on Monday (December 22). A senior official of The State Council said that this was "the practice of every government".
The official, who requested anonymity, said, "The ambassador is the president's personal representative, and the president has the authority to ensure that his personnel stationed in these countries can advance the American priorities agenda."
Insiders disclosed that nearly 30 senior diplomats have been ordered to return to Washington. They are all stationed in some small countries, where the top representatives of the United States have traditionally been politically neutral American career diplomats.
Another US official said that the government encouraged the recalled diplomats to look for new positions within the State Department.
According to Bloomberg, this unprecedented recall operation will result in the loss of leaders confirmed by the Senate at US embassies abroad.
The report quoted informed sources as saying that almost all of the recalled individuals were career diplomats appointed during Biden's tenure. They were recently informed by phone that they needed to return to the United States within a few weeks.
The American Institute of Diplomats is working hard to identify which diplomats have been recalled. Some diplomats reported that they were not informed of the reasons for the recall.
A spokesperson for the Diplomatic Personnel Association, Gammer, said the procedure was "extremely unusual". In her email, she wrote: "The sudden and unexplained recall reflects the same pattern of institutional disruption and politicization, which our survey data shows has already undermined morale, work efficiency and the credibility of the United States overseas."
The State Council refused to respond to Gammer's comments.
