US President Trump said on Monday (September 15) that trade negotiations between the United States and China are progressing smoothly and hinted that the two sides have reached an agreement on resolving the ownership issue of the short-video platform TikTok.

Trump wrote on his Social media platform Truth Social: "The major trade meeting between the United States and China in Europe is progressing very smoothly!" The meeting is coming to an end. We also reached an agreement on a "specific" company that young Americans are very eager to save. They will be very happy!"

The relationship between the two countries remains very solid!

Us Treasury Secretary Jason Besente said that during the trade negotiations with China in Madrid, the two sides have reached a framework agreement on TikTok, which will pave the way for TikTok to be owned by the United States.

He also said that TikTok's commercial terms would take into account the national security interests of the United States while retaining the "Chinese characteristics" of the app.

Bessent disclosed that the Chinese delegation initially requested to obtain "compensation" for the sale of TikTok through concessions on tariffs and export controls.

Chinese negotiators have taken a tough stance, but they are aware that they have three and a half years to reduce the risks in their trade relations with the United States to avoid decoupling.

China and the United States held a new round of economic and trade talks in Madrid, Spain on Sunday (the 14th). This consultation covered issues such as trade, economy and national security, as well as the fate of TikTok, a subsidiary of ByteDance.

Last year, the US Congress passed a bill requiring ByteDance to sell TikTok's US business to an American entity in order to reduce national security risks.

Since Trump took office in the White House in January this year, he has signed executive orders three times to extend the period for divesting TikTok's US business. This week marks the deadline for TikTok to reach an agreement to ensure the continued operation of its business in the United States.
