German Chancellor: Trump is open to the peace plan jointly formulated between Russia and Ukraine

German Chancellor Merz said that US President Trump expressed an open attitude towards the peace plan for Ukraine jointly formulated during a phone call last week.

Reuters reported that Mertz made the above remarks on Monday (November 24) during the EU-African Union summit held in Luanda, the capital of Angola. He stated: "This is precisely the consensus reached by representatives of Ukraine, the United States and EU member states in Geneva yesterday."

The US and Ukraine delegations held consultations in Geneva on Sunday (the 23rd) on plans to end the Russia-Ukraine war and announced the establishment of an updated and improved framework for the peace plan. The United Kingdom, France and Germany submitted a European version of the plan, and representatives from the three countries also met with the Ukrainian delegation on the same day.

The 28-point peace plan previously promoted by Washington was criticized for being clearly biased towards Russia's interests, but US Secretary of State Rubio insisted that the plan took into account the opinions of both Russia and Ukraine.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen emphasized that any future peace agreement must fully reflect the central position of Europe's role, and Ukraine has the freedom and sovereign right to choose its own destiny.

Mertz told reporters in Angola: "We welcome these talks being held in Geneva and also welcome the phased achievements." Some issues have been clarified, but we are also aware that peace in Ukraine will not be achieved overnight.

He also emphasized that Europe must agree to any plan to end the war in Ukraine. It is of vital importance to us that the peace plan for Ukraine cannot be established without our consent on issues concerning European interests and sovereignty.

He also pointed out that "Russia must participate in the negotiations." If this can be achieved, all efforts will be worthwhile.
