US President Trump said that Los Angeles, where protests have been ongoing recently, is being invaded by "foreign enemies" and he vowed to "liberate" the city.
Agence France-Presse reported that Trump delivered a speech at Fort Bragg, a U.S. Army military base in North Carolina, on Tuesday (June 10). He called the demonstrators in Los Angeles, California "animals", referring to their waving flags of other countries. He also encouraged soldiers to boo and taunt California Governor Newsom and former President Biden.
Last week, the U.S. Customs and Immigration Enforcement (ICE) carried out surprise operations at multiple locations in Los Angeles, arresting dozens of immigrants and triggering several days of demonstrations. Protesters opposed the authorities' tough law enforcement and had many conflicts with security personnel. Trump has ordered the dispatch of 2,000 soldiers to Los Angeles, including 700 active-duty Marines.
According to military officials, members of the Marine Corps have no arrest authority and are responsible for protecting federal property and personnel. There were approximately 2,100 National Guard members in the Los Angeles area on Tuesday, and more troops are on their way.
Trump stated at Fort Bragg: "This state of anarchy must not continue." We will never allow federal law enforcement officers to be attacked, nor will we allow American cities to be invaded and occupied by foreign enemies.
He told the US soldiers at Fort Bragg: "What you are witnessing in California is a comprehensive attack on peace, public order and national sovereignty, carried out by thugs waving foreign flags, with the aim of continuing foreign invasion of our country."
Newsom firmly opposed Trump's dispatch of troops to Los Angeles and criticized Trump's dictatorship. California filed a lawsuit against Trump and the US Department of Defense on Monday (the 9th), seeking to prevent the deployment of federal forces. Subsequently, on Tuesday, it sought an immediate ruling on specific issues regarding the involvement of federal forces in police law enforcement. The judge is expected to hold a hearing on this issue on Thursday (the 12th).
Trump compared the demonstrators in Los Angeles to uncontrolled immigrants and said that Europe must also take action.
Just as the whole world is seeing now, uncontrolled immigration causes chaos, incapacity and disorder. Do you know? The same problem also exists in Europe. This kind of thing is happening in many European countries. They'd better take action before it's too late.
