The British government plans to introduce measures to reduce child poverty rates or lift the "two-child restriction" on welfare benefits

British Prime Minister Stammer said that the government would soon announce measures to reduce the poverty rate among children. This move may imply that the UK will lift the "two-child cap" policy for providing child care benefits to parents in the fiscal budget at the end of November.

Reuters reported that Stammer said on ITV's "Lorand Show" broadcast on Tuesday (November 11) that he is determined to reduce the child poverty rate and "specific measures will be announced soon."

The current child-rearing welfare policy in the UK stipulates that if a couple has more than two children, they cannot claim the unified benefit or tax credit for the third child.

This policy was proposed by the Conservative Party and implemented in April 2017. It only applies to children born after April 6, 2017.

The Child Poverty Action Group criticized that this policy is the main driver of the current increase in the child poverty rate in the UK.

Activists, charities and politicians from all walks of life in the UK have called on the government to lift this restriction measure.

Finance Minister Reeves sent out signals of policy adjustment on Monday (the 10th). She pointed out that the phenomenon of "children being punished for being born into large families" should not exist.

The Times disclosed last week that Reeves told the budget watchdog that raising personal income tax would be one of the main measures she planned to announce in her budget.

Data from the Institute for Fiscal Studies, an independent research institution in the UK, shows that if the "two-child cap" policy were lifted, it would cost about 3 billion pounds annually, but could lift 500,000 children out of absolute poverty.
