US President Trump has decided to extend ByteDance's deadline for divesting its US assets from the short-video app TikTok by another 90 days.
Reuters reported that the grace period for TikTok's "ban if not sold" was originally set to end on Thursday (June 19th). The White House announced on Tuesday (June 17th) that Trump has decided to extend the period by an additional 90 days.
White House Press Secretary Levitt said, "President Trump will sign an additional executive order this week to keep TikTok running."
Last April, the US Senate passed a bill requiring ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok, to sell TikTok to non-Chinese enterprises within 270 days; otherwise, it will be completely banned in the United States. This ban was originally scheduled to come into effect in January this year.
Since taking office in January, Trump has twice approved the suspension of the TikTok ban authorized by Congress.
It is reported that TikTok has approximately 170 million users in the United States.
