Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu said that the possibility of Israel and Hamas reaching an agreement on a short-term ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and the release of some hostages "is a thing of the past".

Xinhua News Agency reported that Netanyahu said in an interview with Israel's i24 news channel on Tuesday (August 12) that the possibility of reaching a "partial agreement" with Hamas no longer exists. He also denied the accusation that he was "prolonging the war", saying that the cabinet supported measures to shorten the battle schedule and achieve a "decisive victory" in the Gaza Strip.

The office of the Prime Minister of Israel announced on the 8th that the Israeli security Cabinet has approved Netanyahu's plan to "defeat Hamas", and the Israeli army is preparing to take over Gaza City in the northern part of the Gaza Strip. Many countries and international organizations have spoken out to condemn this decision and urged Israel to immediately stop its "war plan".

According to data released by the Gaza Strip's health department on August 12th, since the Israeli army resumed military operations in the Gaza Strip on March 18th, at least 10,078 people have died and 42,047 have been injured.
