British Prime Minister Stemer said that unless Israel takes substantive action to end the terrifying situation in the Gaza Strip and commits to achieving a long-term sustainable peace, the UK will recognize the State of Palestine before the opening of the UN General Assembly in September and safeguard the feasibility of the "two-state solution".
According to reports from Xinhua News Agency and AFP, the British Prime Minister's Office issued a statement on Tuesday (July 29), demanding that Israel allow the United Nations to resume humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip as soon as possible to end the famine, agree to a ceasefire, and indicate that it will not annex Palestinian territory in the West Bank. The statement also made multiple demands on Hamas, including the release of all hostages.
The statement said that the UK is willing to work with international partners to formulate a credible peace plan, establish transitional governance and security mechanisms in the Gaza Strip in the next stage after the ceasefire, and ensure that humanitarian aid is adequate and timely in place.
Before Stammer made this statement, French President Emmanuel Macron had already announced that the State of Palestine would be recognized in September, being the first two European Allies among the Group of Seven (G7) to express their readiness to recognize the State of Palestine.
British Foreign Secretary Lamy delivered a speech at the high-level international conference on the peaceful settlement of the Palestinian issue and the implementation of the "Two-state Solution" held by the United Nations on the same day, believing that there is no better solution for the future of the Middle East than the "two-state solution". Israelis live within recognized security borders, coexist peacefully with neighboring countries and are free from the threat of terrorism. Palestinians, on the other hand, lead a dignified and secure life in their own country, free from occupation.
Lamy later said at a media conference that the most terrifying scenes were witnessed in the Gaza Strip, and the international community was deeply indignant at children being shot dead while seeking aid. The statement released by the British side on the same day put the UK "on the path of recognizing the State of Palestine".
According to reports from the Financial Times, The Times and other media, after Macron announced on July 24 that France would recognize the State of Palestine at the UN General Assembly in September, more than 230 ordinary members of the British Parliament and about one-third of the cabinet members have urged British Prime Minister Stammer to recognize the State of Palestine.
