佛罗里达州墨西哥湾沿岸赤潮通常在夏季暴发，今年却提早到了春季。相关机构近期已清理出了近两吨以死鱼为主的打捞物。附近居民表示，由此引发的恶臭非常“刺鼻和辣眼睛”。 佛州鱼类和野生动物保护委员会提醒民众近期不要下海游泳，以免刺激皮肤和眼睛乃至触发相关疾病。此外，哮喘患者和肺病患者也应避免前往海滩。
