A U.S. Navy electronic warfare aircraft crashed into the sea near San Diego in southern California on Wednesday, and two pilots ejected, the Navy confirmed.
Xinhua quoted a U.S. Navy statement as saying that an EA-18G Growler electronic warfare aircraft belonging to the 135th Electronic Attack Aircraft Squadron crashed in the waters of San Diego Bay at about 10:15 local time, and the two pilots were rescued from the water and taken to a nearby hospital for medical evaluation.
A local TV crew was filming at the beach when they saw the plane go down and the pilot rescued by a nearby fishing boat. Television reported that there was oil floating in the area where the plane crashed, and officials were trying to recover the wreckage.
The US military has announced an investigation into the cause of the crash. The EA-18G Growler is an electronic warfare variant of the U.S. Navy's F/A-18 fighter.
Recently, the United States has had a series of aircraft accidents that have caused concern, many of which involve military aircraft.
