Switzerland intends to investigate the legality of the operation of the US-funded Gaza Foundation

The Swiss government said that the authorities are assessing whether to launch a legal investigation into the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation. The agency, headquartered in Switzerland and supported by the United States, plans to lead the distribution of supplies in Gaza, but it has sparked controversy.

Reuters reported that the non-governmental organization "TRIAL International" recently submitted a legal application to the Swiss Federal Foundation Supervisory Authority and the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs, demanding an investigation into whether the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation complies with Swiss law and international humanitarian law.

The United Nations has publicly opposed the aid plan of this foundation, arguing that the agency is not neutral, or that it may force the people of Gaza to be displaced again and put thousands of people at greater risk.

The International Judicial Organization pointed out that the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation may plan to use a private security company to assist in the distribution of supplies and requested the Swiss authorities to explain whether the act has been declared and approved in accordance with the law. The Swiss Foreign Ministry responded that it is conducting an investigation into the relevant issues.

Regulatory authorities stated that only after the foundation officially commences its activities will it have the authority to review whether it fulfills its duties as stipulated in the articles of association.

The Gaza Humanitarian Foundation responded that the organization would "strictly adhere to humanitarian principles" and would not support any form of forced migration. Although the operation mode of using private security representatives is different from the traditional aid framework, it helps prevent aid materials from falling into the hands of Hamas or criminal organizations.
