Democratic Republic of the Congo President Tishekdi said on Sunday (November 2) that dialogue with the anti-government armed group "M23 Movement" will resume in Doha, the capital of Qatar, in the near future.
Xinhua News Agency reported that the Democratic Republic of the Congo, commonly known as the Congo (DRC), is a country located in central Africa. It is the second largest and fourth most populous African country in the world, with Kinshasa as its capital.
The presidential palace of the Democratic Republic of the Congo issued a communique on Sunday night, saying that Tshisekedi indicated that he would continue to resolve the conflict in the eastern region through political and diplomatic channels. The government is promoting the opening of humanitarian channels in the eastern region, including the resumption of humanitarian flights at the airport in Goma, the capital of North Kivu Province, which was controlled by the "M23 movement".
Since January this year, tensions in the eastern region of the Democratic Republic of the Congo have escalated sharply. The "M23 Movement" has continuously launched offensives in North Kivu Province, South Kivu Province and other places, and the conflict has caused a large number of civilian casualties and dislocations. In July, the government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the "M23 Movement" signed a declaration of principles in Doha. According to the Declaration of Principles, both sides should take steps such as permanently ceasing hostilities, releasing detainees, restoring the governance rights of state institutions in conflict areas, and initiating negotiations on peace agreements. However, the relevant steps have made little progress and the situation in the east has become tense again recently.
